Maker Faire

The Maker Faire in San Mateo is the world’s largest do-it-yourself event, and the Explorabox crew was there in full force!  We were able to demonstrate our electricity and magnetism activities including the floating pencil, electric motor, and iron filing dishes.

Of course our main attraction was the real-life angry birds game! Kids were able to physically shoot stuffed angry bird characters at a target that they arranged. By recording the slingshot angle and strength, our visitors could get a sense of projectile motion. That combined with the satisfaction and cheers of knocking over the target made us the “Best booth ever!!!” to quote on of our visitors… 🙂

Our booth won an education award from the fair, which is encouraging for our volunteers. We will continue to work hard to get our first Explorabox kits out and available for children to use and play with!
